📢 Announcement: The First Specialized Bootcamp on “Process Safety Management (PSM)” by the World Safety Organization (WSO) – Kish Island, Iran

We are very proud to announce that, under the authority of the World Safety Organization (WSO), we held the first specialized bootcamp on Process Safety Management (PSM) from May 10 to 14, 2025, on the beautiful Kish Island, Iran, in valuable cooperation with the Kish Standard, Health, Food and Drug Administration.

Certainly, the small steps each of us takes in this field can lead to outstanding results in the future.

What is Process Safety Management (PSM)?

Process Safety Management (PSM) is a systematic framework for preventing catastrophic accidents in process industries that handle hazardous, flammable, and explosive chemicals. This system is designed based on OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and CCPS (Center for Chemical Process Safety) standards, and its goal is to control risks arising from hazardous material leaks, explosions, fires, and toxic gas releases.

PSM Fundamentals Based on OSHA and CCPS:

– Process hazard identification and assessment (HAZOP, FMEA, LOPA)
– Management of Change (MOC) to prevent unintended hazards
– Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) before commissioning new units
– Employee training for emergency response
– Regular equipment maintenance and inspection (in accordance with API, ASME standards)
– Contractor management and oversight of hazardous operations
– Incident investigation to prevent recurrence

The Necessity of PSM for Process Industries:

Industries such as oil, gas, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, refineries, and chemical industries are always at risk of catastrophic accidents due to handling flammable, explosive, and toxic materials. Incidents like the Mumbai explosion (2005), the Flixborough accident (2019), and the Bhopal disaster (1984) demonstrate that failure to adhere to PSM principles can lead to loss of life, financial damage, environmental pollution, and reputational harm to organizations.
